Alumni Work Weekend - Chapter Room Restoration Phase III

  • 812 Castle Point Terrace Hoboken, NJ, 07030 United States (map)

Our next Alumni Work Weekend will be on May 22nd, 2021. We will be working on the following projects in regard to the chapter room restoration;

Painting and preparing the stages. The wood for the stages needs to be measured, cut, painted and prepped for installation. Tools: Miter Saw, Circular Saw, Chalk Reel, Paint Brushes, Paint Cups, Latex Gloves.

Removing the old paint from the chapter room walls. In order to prepare the walls for waterproofing and a fresh new paint job we need to wire wheel and bleach wash the existing surface. Tools: Cordless & Corded Drills, Wire Wheels, Strip Disks, Wire Brushes, Dust Collection Fan/Filter, Cleaning Brushes, N95 masks.

Continued restoration of the benches and ceremonial fixtures. Ken Cenicola has fully restored one of the pieces he took home with him back in January. It looks amazing and we're going to be using it as our standard/control for the remaining pieces. This is where we need the most coordinated effort in order to stay on schedule. If you have any experience in wood working or could even take a small piece home and work on it over the Summer, this would be of enormous help. Ken cannot possibly restore everything by himself. Tools: Drills, clamps, jigsaw, wood glue, dowels, other wood working supplies.

Electrical - We need a volunteer or two to decommission the BTP light behind the old Presidents Chair on the former south stage as well as design and build a new light for the north stage. We also need to decommission and remove the wiring that used to be built into the old stages to power the lights in the podiums. Tools: Sparky stuff.

Other things to consider bringing: Safety glasses, respirators, work gloves, saw horses, buckets and rags, shop vacs, work lights, extension cords. Basically assume the house doesn't have anything we need.

This is a very important milestone in the project. In order to keep on schedule and open the room up for use this September we need to complete each of these items. If you have any questions please email sigma1050@gmail.com.
