2020 Sigma Alumni Golf Outing Recap
Brothers,
I want to thank everyone again who was able to make it to the golf outing today. Also want to thank Zuffi, Pops and Ebert for helping me put this event together. We had a total of 37 players making it one of our biggest outings ever. TJ Alcorn had the longest drive on hole #9 and Richie Szeliga had closest to the pin on hole #15. The highest role number was James Ebert (1227) and the lowest was Greg Davis (907). We could not have asked for nicer weather and it was great seeing brothers who graduated in different decades getting together and sharing stories. Today we raised $1310 that will be put towards renovating our houses chapter room. Based on the amount of people who wanted to attend but were unable to, I believe we can get over 50 players for next year’s outing which will hopefully take place in June 2021.
We are currently working on planning our next two events including a family bowling night for some time in early 2021 and the alumni poker game. An alumni has volunteered his back yard for the game and even offered to roast some sort of animal. He was actually very excited about that part. The tentative date is Saturday September 19th. If you would be interested in attending, please click here to register. It would be a $100 buy-in with $50 going to the chapter room renovations.
Briefly, I would like to update everyone about what is going on at the house. Stevens has elected to continue virtual learning for at least the Fall semester except for incoming freshman. What this means for the house is that for at least the first semester of this year there will be no residence and therefore no income. Hopefully things return to normal in the Spring semester, but one must assume they may not. Fortunately, Bob Giarratano and the Sigma Chapter Housing Association have done a superb job at keeping our houses affairs in order and we will be able to weather this storm for the foreseeable future.
But this also provides an opportunity to perform much need maintenance and renovations to the house while it is unoccupied. In the coming months we may try to put together a legitimate alumni work weekend where brothers can lend any expertise or skills they may have to a specific project and help move these renovations forward. We will post more about that and the other events in the coming weeks.
Today was a good day to be a Sigma.
